MIPH Procedure
Minimally Invasive Procedure for Hemorrhoids (MIPH), also widely known as Stapled Hemorrhoidopexy, is a breakthrough surgical technique for treating advanced hemorrhoids with significantly less pain than traditional methods.
What is Stapled Hemorrhoidopexy?
This procedure is specifically recommended for Grade 3 and Grade 4 hemorrhoids (piles) that prolapse or bleed. Unlike traditional surgery that cuts the hemorrhoids away, MIPH uses a specialized circular stapler to "lift" and reposition the hemorrhoidal tissue back to its original anatomical position.
- Internal Approach: Performed above the "dentate line" where there are fewer pain-sensing nerves.
- Blood Supply Control: The stapler cuts off the blood supply to the hemorrhoids, causing them to shrink naturally within weeks.
- No External Cuts: Because the surgery happens inside the anal canal, there are no external wounds to heal.
Advantages Over Open Surgery
- Minimal Pain: Patients report 70% less post-operative pain.
- Shorter Stay: Usually performed as a day-care or 24-hour procedure.
- Faster Recovery: Return to work within 7-10 days.
- Safety: Lower risk of post-operative bleeding and infection.
Post-Operative Care & Recovery
The journey to full health is rapid with MIPH. Most patients can resume a normal diet immediately and experience minor discomfort that is easily managed with oral medication.
Expected Timeline:
- Day 1: Discharge from hospital and light walking.
- Day 3-5: Minimal to no pain during bowel movements.
- Week 1-2: Complete return to professional duties and normal routine.
